California Legalizes Gay Marriage

Above: Paul and Me. Photo taken by one of our best friends, Patrick Lentz.

Well, now I can say that I have lived in BOTH states that have made gay marriage legal. Do I care? Yes and No.

Yes, I care because it opens up a ton of doors for gays and lesbians in the way of rights. It allows us to have some of the same rights that straight people do. Geez, that sounds so bizarre saying that but the reality is, gays and lesbians are not "equal" to the average "straight" citizen. Sad as that sounds. Anyway, California being the second state to legalize gay marriage opens up another closed door. Do I feel any "different" or more "equal".. Nah.

No, I have no desire to get married. I understand why certain people do feel the need to get married BOTH in the gay and straight world. For taxes, health benefits, the children, rights.... but I personally don't feel the need to get married to Paul, well I guess my biggest reason to marry Paul would be that I could change my last name to Johnson...hmmm you know what...that IS worth getting married for!!! I need to set a date!

It's funny because a few of our friends from Boston emailed us and asked, "When's the wedding?" Paul's response was pretty funny, he said " I left Boston so I could avoid this issue!" Ha! All I can say is I am not wearing the dress! :-P

Hmmm....I always imagined you getting married nude...and PJ would be wearing a Red Sox shirt and a jockstrap. Well, now that I know you're not getting married anytime soon, I have nothing else to live for!

This is Neil's way of saying he wants to get married... ok, I'm kidding! It was pretty exciting to see the celebration in the Castro tonight, it reminded me of Cambridge when people were getting married that first night at midnight. Neil put it very well in his description on this post, but the reality is that he would look a lot better in a dress than I would!

IF I were to get married I would not wear a dress adn neither would Paul. I would wear a vintage 1930's tux, a replica of what Clark Gable wore in Possessed 1931.

The institution of marriage itself is rather antiquated. The tradition is deeply rooted in the use of women as property to be exchanged legally.

In saying so, equal protection under the law is vital for the state of California and the country. Seeing that the state has finally ruled in favor of this ideal is a huge relief.

Whether or not anyone wants to get married, it is nice to know the option is now there. Thank goodness!

I am glad you two seem to be on the same page with the marriage issue. You could get a lot of great presents though! May be worth it for that. The bachelor parties would be a lot of fun too. Strippers all around!

Yes, it is nice to know the option is out there, I have the choice now which is great. Maybe I am not as excited becasue I was in Mass when it bacame legal as well! LOL. I am the gay marriage fairy, wherever I move they legalize gay marriage! Ha!

Yea, I like the idea of lots of gifts and the bachelor party...oh we would so have it in Vegas or should we revisit Reno? :-)

I think we should stick it to Reno and do it there! How much would they hate a GAY Californian bachelor party? Maybe one of you have it in Reno and the other have it Vegas, so we get both in there.

So Mister Marriage Fairy, what state is next?

Hmm, I am going to say either Vegas or New York would be next. Does that ,mean I COULD be living in one of those states soon!??? Hmmmm...

You have to stop this chatting about moving out of California; particularly choosing to utilize words like "soon!" I simply won't have it.
